Alex Jenkins

Professional Dog Dad and coffee enthusiast, Alex Jenkins, joins the Texas Music Institute Bass Faculty for the 2020-2021 school year.

A native of the Chicago metro area, Jenkins began playing the viola at the age of 10, but quickly realized his mistake and shortly thereafter switched to the double bass.

As an in-demand freelancer, Jenkins has performed with the Dallas Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Opera, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, as well as the San Diego Symphony. While working abroad, he served as principal bass of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany and the Thy Chamber Music Festival in Denmark.

Since 2008, Jenkins has worked extensively with young musicians in Chicago, New York City, Salvador, Brazil, San Diego, and the DFW Metroplex. His most recent teaching positions were with the Dallas Symphony and the University of Texas at Dallas.

Prior to moving to Dallas in 2015, Mr. Jenkins enjoyed performing a wide variety of non-classical music in New York City and has recorded with artists ranging from Judy Collins to Feist.

A student of Tim Cobb and Al Laszlo, Jenkins graduated with a BM and MM from The Juilliard School in 2014.
