Summer Music Bootcamps: July 2021

We are so excited to announce our summer bootcamps coming this July! See the descriptions below for more info. These bootcamps are HYBRID, meaning there are both virtual and in-person elements.

These short bootcamps are packed with the essential and most important information students need to reach their goals as musicians and business owners.

NOTE: If you would like to attend both bootcamps, you will receive a discount of $50 off your total tuition!

Music Career Bootcamp Dates: Saturdays, July 10-31

Times: 10 AM -- 12 PM Location: 7/10, 7/17, 7/24: Zoom. 7/31: In-person in Dallas (online option available.)

Cost: $150

Ages: High School -- College

Did you know you can start your music career while still in high school, and even middle school? In this bootcamp, students will get a crash course in everything they need to start a career in music. By the end of the bootcamp, students will have all of the tools, skills, and connections they need to start their career NOW! Students will learn virtually through Zoom with lectures, presentations, projects/activities, and special guest artist presentations. On the last class, students will meet in-person in Dallas at our Common Desk location for final presentations and a pizza party.

Subjects we will cover include:

  • Branding

  • Networking

  • Marketing

  • Finding and creating opportunities

Additionally, all students will be working on their own professional website that they will present to the rest of the camp on the last class in-person. This will be a working, real website that they can use right away for their careers! Note: This camp does not assign "homework," but it is recommended that the student work on their website on their own throughout the week.

In addition to their own working professional website, students will gain:

  • Important and valuable skills and knowledge that often take musicians years of hard work and failure to learn on their own.

  • Tips and tricks to start getting gigs and opportunities now, while still in school.

  • The invaluable benefit of being able to network and connect with Texas Music Institute faculty members, many of whom are part of major US orchestras and institutions.

  • A musical "home" in Texas Music Institute, where students will always be able to come back to for advice, recommendation letters, musical help, etc.

Have you ever wanted to create your own arts or music-related non-profit, but you don't know where to start? Maybe you have an amazing idea for a music business, but you don't know the first step. We understand! As musicians, we don't generally learn all the ins-and-outs of starting a business. By the end of this bootcamp, students will have a working simple business plan that they can use right away to start their own business or organization, as well as all the tools, skills, and connections they need to be successful. Students will learn virtually through Zoom with lectures, presentations, projects/activities, and special guest artist presentations. On the last class, students will meet in-person in Dallas at our Common Desk location for final presentations and a pizza party.

Students will:

  • Learn about different business structures and the best one for their business idea

  • Hear from guest speakers from the music business and music non-profit industry

  • Create their own simple business plan that they can use right away

  • Gain invaluable networking with our Texas Music Institute faculty members, industry professionals, and their own peers in the bootcamp.

  • A musical "home," where students will always be able to come back to for advice, musical help, letters of recommendation, etc.

Note: in this bootcamp, there will be outside work the students will be expected to complete on their own, like market research, revising of their business plan, creating their powerpoint presentation, etc.

At the end of the bootcamp, students will present their business plan powerpoints at our Common Desk location.
